A knocked out tooth constitutes as a dental emergency and will require medical assistance

It is important to note that in the event of someone experiencing a tooth being knocked out it will require urgent dental care. There is a good chance that the tooth can be reinserted into the patient’s mouth and can be preserved following the incident should you visit our emergency dentist in Edinburgh as soon as possible.

We recommend that you try to locate the missing tooth and carry it by placing your fingers on the crown of the tooth and avoiding touching the root of the tooth. Clean the tooth by gently rinsing it in milk or saliva, but avoid any scrubbing to damage the tooth in any way. If it is possible, we advise that the patient places the loose tooth back into its socket and keeps it in place by biting down. If this is not a viable option simply place the tooth in a small cup of milk. This will help to preserve the tooth until you are able to arrange a visit at our practice.

Visit our emergency dentist if your tooth is out of alignment

Are you experiencing a loose tooth or does your tooth appear to be out of alignment? If this is the case we recommend requesting an emergency appointment as soon as possible with our emergency dentist.

In some instances, our dentist may splint the tooth to your teeth on each side in order to stabilise your loose tooth. The most important thing to remember is to be gentle with the loose tooth and to not apply too much pressure by biting down or in an effort to hold it into place.

Request an urgent appointment if you have a chipped or cracked tooth

In most cases we advise making an appointment with us if you have a chipped or cracked tooth or if you have fractured your teeth in any way. If the patient is not experiencing extreme pain and discomfort following a chipped tooth, it may not constitute an emergency situation, and you can wait a few days before it is necessary to see a dentist.

In the case of a dental emergency or accident we recommend reaching out to our practice to determine whether it is important for you to be evaluated in person as soon as possible. Your health and wellbeing are our main concern here at the clinic and we are happy to assist in order to relieve you of any pain or discomfort.
