Here at Polwarth Dental Clinic, we offer emergency dental treatment for those patients who experience sudden, unexpected problems with their teeth. Things don’t always go to plan, and that’s why our emergency dentist in Edinburgh is here to help.
When do I need an emergency dentist?
Knocked out or loose tooth
Sometimes the unexpected can happen and you may knock your tooth out, or make it loose. If this happens, you will need to try and get an emergency dental appointment as soon as possible to prevent further damage. In the meantime, it is important to make sure the area under the tooth is clean to prevent infection.
When you do get your emergency dental treatment, we will try our best to reattach the tooth (if you still have it) or let you know about other options you can take.
If you just leave a knocked out tooth, then because of the space that has been created, this puts pressure on your other teeth. Because of this pressure, your surrounding teeth will become more susceptible to damage and bacteria, and will weaken.
Toothache is one of the most common reasons for our patients to need an appointment with our emergency dentist in Edinburgh. The pain that comes from toothache can be debilitating, and people can struggle to eat, drink and talk because of it.
If you experience toothache that does not get helped by painkillers and lasts for more than 2 days, this is when you should call us to book your appointment, as this means there could be some sort of infection.
If your gums start bleeding abnormally, this is also a time when you should call us for an emergency appointment, as this means there is damage to the teeth or gums. This could also mean you have a possible infection, which would need to be treated as soon as possible to prevent further problems.
If you have noticed that you have a missing filling or crown, then this is a cause for you to need an emergency appointment, as this could lead on to further problems if untreated.
